Penned by Dan Baillie with Haunting Art from Tim Bradstreet,
the Bone-Chilling One-Shot Thriller Breaks New Ground in Fear
and Lurks Into Stores Wednesday, May 7

LOS ANGELES, CA – FEBRUARY 19, 2025 – Darkness is creeping closer, and the nightmares are just beginning. Artists Writers and Artisans (AWA) — renowned for crafting bold, original tales — and Vertigo Entertainment, the production company led by horror mastermind Roy Lee, have today unleashed the first tale from The Future of Fear, a new collection of pulse-pounding, spine-chilling horror stories. LOOK OUT, the first installment of the collection that promises to leave readers trembling, is in stores on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. LOOK OUT is penned by comics newcomer Dan Baillie, with artwork from horror icon Tim Bradstreet (THE PUNISHER, HELLBLAZER).
Announced in June 2024, this sinister new alliance between AWA and Vertigo Entertainment is forging the next era of boundary-pushing horror franchises with The Future of Fear. The collection delivers a chilling lineup of stories that will be released over the next year, crafted by a handpicked team of master storytellers and artists. Designed to haunt fans across every medium—illustrated prose, comics, film, and TV—this collaboration redefines how terrifying tales are discovered, created, and consumed, promising to leave audiences thrilled, shaken, and hungry for more. As the Eisner Award-winning publisher brings each Future of Fear story to life through graphic works, Vertigo Entertainment and AWA Studios, the Film & TV division of AWA, are teaming up to co-produce the film and TV adaptations, ensuring these chilling tales make their way to the screen.
“LOOK OUT originated as a chilling Reddit thread penned by Scotland native Dan Baille that quickly amassed a cult following and caught the attention of Roy Lee and the team at Vertigo, who then brought it to me,” said Axel Alonso, AWA’s Chief Creative Officer. “At AWA, we love discovering new voices and we love the horror genre so it took one read to know this bone-chilling story needed to be brought to life as graphic fiction – in this case, as illustrated prose. And who better than legendary Hellblazer and Punisher artist Tim Bradstreet, whose striking full-color photo-realistic illustrations perfectly punctuate the story and bring to life its characters and unnerving environment? With Roy’s guidance, LOOK OUT and other one-shots in this scary collection are sure to get under the skin of the most seasoned horror fans.”
In LOOK OUT, Oscar, recuperating from a divorce, takes a job as a fire lookout in a secluded forest outpost, hoping for solitude and a fresh start. But his quiet retreat takes a sinister turn when he discovers a mangled sheet of paper scrawled with a strange set of rules that claim to ensure he’ll stay safe during his watch. At first, Oscar laughs it off as a prank, – a bit of harmless hazing from the other fire lookouts in the area – but as night descends, he comes to a horrifying realization that the rules are no joke, and the threat they protect against is all too real.
“As a film and television producer, I’m always searching for the next great story. I’m particularly drawn to stories that evoke a deep, universal fear—often set in environments that are uniquely unsettling,” said Lee. “I jumped at the chance to work closely with AWA, whose work I’ve long admired, to bring this collection to fans. Our mission with The Future of Fear is to spotlight exceptional voices through a groundbreaking set of horror stories. We’ve scoured both traditional and unconventional places to bring you these new tales, each terrifying in its own way, packed with all the dread, shock, and adrenaline you’d expect from masters of the craft.”
Lee is best known for producing some of the most scream-worthy horror films and franchises including Barbarian, It, The Grudge, The Ring, Companion, Late Night with the Devil, and many more. The ever-prolific Vertigo Entertainment is currently in various stages of production on numerous projects including the highly anticipated Zach Cregger film Weapons, coming in 2026 from New Line.
LOOK OUT will be available Wednesday, May 7, 2025, both digitally and in stores wherever comic books are sold.
