Read any Archie lately? With Holloween right around the corner—it’s time to treat yourself to some spooky and not-so-spooky Archie fun. No tricking here: Archie always puts out fantastic all-ages comics that old and new fans should be reading.
And the spooky season wouldn’t be right without something Sabrina-new—with an Annual Spectular with an all-new story. It is not just any story, but with the Wicked Trinity, and also the introduction of the Baddest Witch of all—Striga. The rest of the issue is filled with classic Sabrina tales.
The story of Striga continues in Archie’s Halloween Spectacular, where Mr. Lodge caves to Veronica and allows her to attend the Halloween Party of All Parties at Lodge Manor. Here, the Wicked Trinity appears along with Striga, brewing up trouble, and only Sabrina can save the day!
That is not the only treat for Archie fans as they get a tale of Ginger Snapp! For you Mighty Crusaders fans, there’s a story just for you that also features the Archie Teen Heroes. Yes, for those who don’t know your Archie, Archie’s hero is Pureheart, and Betty is Super Teen. And all the regulars also have hero identities.
Now, there’s a long history of names more associated with the Big Two heading over to Riverdale. While Archie: The Decision is not spooky-themed, it is still a treat for fans! Tom King (Yes, THAT Tom King) teams up with a long-time Archie artist to help Archie FINALLY decide whether it’s Betty OR Veronica. Archie decides flipping a coin will give him the answers, but it does not go all expected— of course! The whole issue is one madcap adventure with tons of cameos from the folks of Riverdale. You even get the scoop on why King decided to do the tale, and King fans need to check out the issue.
We can’t forget the Archie Jumbo Comics Digest 354 because it is one of the best bargains around. Here’s a fun fact: Archie Comics pioneered the format back in the 1970s. While other publishers tried the format, only Archie remained fifty years later.
At almost 200 pages of this Spooky Thened issue, these are fantastic ways to sample classic Archie tales through the years. Also, you get to read stories with Little Archie and other Riverdale characters – like Archie’s dad spotlighted. And, like most digests, it does have an all-new story with a Halloween Party at Eyegore Estates.
Yes, there is a ton of Archie available to read free—including new stuff—via services like Comixolgy and Hoopla. You can also visit your favorite fantastic comic shop and pick up the latest Archie. But I do have a suggestion—head over to the Archie website. You will find tons of deals on all sorts of Archie Comics. You can even buy other things like t-shirts, and right now, they have Spooky Season merchandise available.
I believe a thriving and growing comic book industry needs more than the more prominent companies and the hottest titles. All fans need to do a better job of the other fantastic comics getting released each month. Don’t be fooled that Archie is ONLY for kids—everything I reviewed and thoroughly enjoyed. And Archie is one of only three publishers who have been putting out fantastic comics since the Golden Age. So, what’s stopping you from reading some Archie this week?
