ComicScene UK – new UK based magazine about comics launches

ComicScene UK, the new magazine about comics, is launching Tuesday 1st May.  Issue 0 is available this week and the title goes monthly from August.  It will be available in 26 Forbidden Planet stores across the UK, digital worldwide and by mail order.

Issue 0 features 64 pages of the Beano, Dan Dare, The Prisoner, Thunderbirds, Judge Dredd, Doctor Who, Batman, Tank Girl, Preacher, Roy of the Rovers and articles by 2000AD creator Pat Mills and Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner on his new character Rok of the Reds.

The first monthly issue in August will focus on women creators, female characters and girl’s comics including Tammy, Jinty, Bunty and Misty.  The new magazine focusses on UK comics and creators, but will include comics from the US, Europe and Worldwide.

Since announcing the project three months ago publishers ComicsFlix have been asked if the proposed subscription only magazine ComicScene U.K. could be made available in Comic Shops.

Tony Foster, Publisher of ComicScene UK explains, “The stores got a chance to see advance copies over the last few weeks, loved the magazine and wanted to stock it.  We are now available in 29 locations across the UK”

This is an exciting time to be a comic fan, but the magazine is also aimed at introducing new readers to the medium.

Tony continued, “With the biggest comic book movie franchise breaking box office records, Free Comic Book Day on 5th May in stores and publishers like Rebellion reprinting classic comics from the 70’s and 80’s it seemed to be the right time to bring back a comic focussed magazine.  Bookshops stock more new graphic novels from around the world than ever before, there are weekly comic conventions and workshops, people love to dress up as their favourite characters, comic book computer games and merchandising is going through the roof and hundreds of talented creators can publish their own titles via Kickstarter.  But where do you start?  You can turn to the internet but the information is quite scattered.  ComicScene UK presents it in one neat and easy to understand 64 page package.”

The publishers also hope to fund free comic workshops for young people once it reaches a regular subscription target of over 3000 readers, inspiring the next generation of comic book creators.

The magazine, which launches on Tuesday 1st May with issue 0, can be purchased or added to your comic shop standing order.
