Comic Book Coffee, number 107: Teen Titans #66, penciled by Eddy Barrows, inked by Ruy Jose, written by Sean McKeever, lettered by Sal Cipriano and colored by Rod Reis, published by DC Comics in February 2009.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of this incarnation of the Teen Titans, the penciling by Eddy Barrows was certainly impressive. I’ve always said that a really great penciler can draw a scene of two people just sitting around talking and make it incredibly interesting. This page has Jaime Reyes, the current Blue Beetle and Traci Thirteen hanging out at a diner with their friends Brenda and Paco drinking coffee. Barrows does a good job “directing” the scene, utilizing some effective storytelling and giving the characters a lot of personality.
Brazilian-born Eddy Barrows entered the comic book biz in 2000 with work on wrestling comics for Chaos. He then drew G.I. Joe: Frontline for Image. Since 2005 he has worked on numerous series for DC. In addition to a year and a half run on Teen Titans, Barrow has drawn Birds of Prey, 52, Nightwing and Justice League of America.
