The Bad Candy story arc concludes with a bang as renowned Rebel artist Tim Vigil pencils issue four.
Wrapping up the first story arc of Bad Candy is exciting and bittersweet. It has been a long time coming and has been unpredictable on several levels. First and foremost, my collaborator and penciler on Bad Candy, Joe Evans passed away this year. He had been having health issues for some time and I had hoped that he would get better and finish this story of Bad Candy. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
Joe was a great person to collaborate with. He was funny and energetic, talented, and had a love for comics and horror movies amongst other things. We met decades ago at a local comic store and began to hang out and draw. Afternoons spent sketching and challenging each other while music videos played in the background are some of my most fun times. It wasn’t long before we started to talk about doing a comic. There were several starts and stops but eventually I drew a pumpkin monster for an October art challenge and we started talking about the creature and I came up with the framework of a story. Thus, Bad Candy was born.
Bad Candy is our love letter to 80’s horror cinema. It’s gory, a little naughty but mostly a fun story set against the backdrop of Halloween in the 80’s. It’s been a great ride so far. It’s grown from a sketch to four books and now this fifth book. I believe there are many stories to come and it seems to be turning a corner. If you’re new to Bad Candy, I hope you’ll jump on board to this labor of love. Several talented artists have contributed to this issue with their time and efforts. I look at their work and feel incredibly blessed to have their efforts supporting this project. It’s an exciting time as we complete the first chapter of Bad Candy. Although I am saddened and disappointed that Joe Evans wasn’t able to complete the pencils on the last issue of Bad Candy..
