Artist Greg Horn unveils cover art for his first store exclusive

Comic book artist Greg Horn is stepping into the variant cover market with his own Venom #1 store exclusives. The artwork depicts Greg’s stunning visions of Venom assimilating Spider-man with his ominous pitch-black tendrils. The artist reveals his thinking behind the 4 illustrations, “I wanted to explore the underlying biological aspects of the venom symbiote bonding with Peter Parker on a myriad of different levels. When a victim becomes Venom, they go through an extreme physiological change as well as an equally intense personality change. So, aside from the surface bonding that is typically portrayed in comic art, I imagined the creature must also be inside the body in order to control the host’s enhanced musculature and endurance… to control his mind.  I just started coming up with these crazy ideas for x-rays, exposing the creepy little tendrils crawling inside the torso, and up through the rib cage to attach themselves to the central nervous system,  into the brain and taking over Spiderman’s total being.  Once that worked out, it energized me to create the other pieces!  It’s hard to explain inspiration sometimes. It can start with a simple question.. and then you never know where it’s going to lead you.”

Venom #1 is published by Marvel Comics, but these limited variants of the comic book will only be made available through Greg’s online store at

Pre-orders will start this Sunday, March 25th at 12pm noon (eastern time). Cover D, the “skulls variant”, is designated as a convention exclusive for Greg’s back-to-back appearances at Wizard World Philadelphia (May 17-20), and Fan Expo’s Megacon (Orlando May 24-27). The D cover will be made available for pre-order on Sunday, but only in limited sets.
