AC’s all-female “Women of Mystery” returns

AC’s last all-female “Women of Mystery” issue of Men of Mystery did so well, we just had to come back with another, so April’s Men of Mystery #114 will be “girls only” once again, with a host of never-before-seen vintage stories starring some of the rarest distaff adventurers of comicdom’s formative years.

Of course, we CAN’T do an issue of MOM without showcasing some character we’ve NEVER reprinted before, so this issue will feature MISS X, Fox Features’ first attempt at a masked/costumed heroine, from her guest-appearances in Mystery Men Comics. (We’ll also be including two “newbies” originally scheduled for MOM #113- MARGO THE MAGICIAN and DIANA THE HUNTRESS, who were both bumped from #113 at the last second due to production problems. We’ve got that all ironed out now, so they will finally see the light of day this issue.)

We’ll also be including some never previously reprinted stories of seldom-seen heroines who have previously made only one or two appearances in MOM, including LADY FAIRPLAY ( here in her origin story); PAT PATRIOT ( drawn by Reed Crandall, in one of his first professional art jobs); WILDFIRE- Jim Mooney and Bob Turner’s seminal “good girl” art superheroine ( in the LAST WF story left that we’ve never run); The BLUE LADY- Centaur Comics’ oddball adventuress; The BLACK ORCHID (NOT the one produced by Continental Pubs, but a completely different one-shot heroine that ran in All New Comics); plus MISS VICTORY; CATMAN’s partner, KITTEN; TIGER GIRL, Matt Baker’s VOODAH, BLONDE BOMBER and more.
Artists on this issues’ features (aside from the aforementioned) include Ralph Mayo, Ruben Moriera, Jack Kamen, Jill Elgin, Frank Frollo, Rudy Palais, Jack Ryan, Klaus Nordling, Ken Battefield, Charles Quinlan and others.

Another important volume shedding light on the history of the female adventure hero in comics’ first decade- don’t miss it. Men of Mystery #114, 140 black and white pages inside a full-color reworked Joe Doolin cover; standard comic book size, saddle-stitched, at $29,95. Coming in April 2020, from AC Comics
