Finally, the one true origin story of the VIOLATOR, as told by the most unbelievable and unreliable narrator of all time. Follow the journey of your favorite SPAWN UNIVERSE demon from his start in the celestial heavens through his fall and descent into Hell, and finally, his banishment to Earth. He existed throughout human history, living in the shadows and pulling the strings of some of the most powerful people to ever live.

Six huge oversized issues! Six incredible artists! Six different points in history! Eisner-winning writer MARC ANDREYKO and a murderers’ row of artists take you to Hell and back in this epic series!

“Violator: Origin #1” promised an epic start to the demon’s story, but instead feels rushed and disjointed. Written by Marc Andreyko with art by Piotr Kowalski, the issue struggles to tie its narrative together, leaving major gaps in key moments.

The concept of exploring Violator’s backstory, from heaven to hell, should have been compelling, but it falls flat with confusing transitions and abrupt scenes. Moments like Baziel grabbing Gloriana or the start of the war between Lucifer and God feel like they’re missing context, as if whole pages were skipped. With such an ambitious plot, it’s disappointing to see it all crammed into one issue without giving the story room to breathe or properly explain Violator’s role.

Surprisingly, the art doesn’t redeem the issue either. Spawn comics usually deliver top-tier visuals, but the artwork here feels lackluster and uninspired. For a book in the Spawn Universe, the bar is set high, and this just doesn’t meet expectations.

It’s unfortunate because the premise had a lot of potential. Hopefully, future issues can pick up the slack, but this debut doesn’t hit the highs fans of the Spawn Universe might expect.

Six dollars for six issues over six months? Nice one, Todd!
