Absolute Power # 4– The latest DC event comes to a satisfying yet explosive conclusion in a way that only Mark Waid can deliver (and he delivers in spades); From the beginning to the end, some plot elements seem very predictable but get used to great effect so no need to nitpick over that and the action will have anyone cheering with excitement due to what the heroes of the DC universe had to go through thanks in part to Amanda Waller (who gets her comeuppance most surprisingly **NO SPOILERS**); While this event makes way for the “All-In” initiative to take center stage, Absolute Power ends on a high note that fans will enjoy immensely while the future of the DC Universe looks brighter than ever.

Batman # 153– This issue sets up many threads that look interesting. Still, we get a few curve balls thrown out the way in the form of a new vigilante known as Commander Star, The Riddler going legit (Which has been teased several times over the years), and a murder that leaves the readers with so many questions. During his run, Chip Zdarsky’s writing can be strong yet there are times when he started getting comfortable coasting along with hurts the stories, for this issue, one of few that kicks off the “All-In” era, Zdarsky manages to get back on track with an issue that keeps things intriguing but always brings readers back to the grittiness that one would expect from a Batman title. With that said, this is by far the best issue of Batman to come out in a while so let’s see if the rest of this arc continues to shine.

Hyde Street # 1– Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis abandon the superhero concepts for a chilling horror story from the Ghost Machine imprint that takes a frightening look at small-town America (Think “Evening Shade” meets “Tales From The Darkside”) as they bring readers to a quaint place called Hyde Street that takes a disturbing look at humanity while introducing us to the key players such as a young scout named Pranky, whose sole mission is to bring out anyone’s dark ambitions and Mr. X, the creator of those cheesy X-Ray glasses. I like how Johns took a closer look into the latter’s backstory to where he’s not exactly a pillar of his community but he leaves enough room so that the mystery of Mr. X can be fleshed out within the next few issues. This is the type of horror story that after reading it, will make any of us question our existence and the choices we make but I will say that both Johns and Reis delivered the goods in this wicked horror series that will delight and possibly terrify you to the core to where this is a title with tons of potential that will not be wasted as the series continues.

Storm # 1– Ororo Munroe has had plenty of identities throughout the years such as a thief, a god, a punk, an X-Man (of course), and an Avenger but her new series looks to cast her in the role of superhero that is long overdue but makes for a promising debut. Still, the great aspect of this title is how all of Ororo’s past roles are used to make her an even stronger character. At the same time, tons of praise should go to the creative team of writer Murewa Ayodele and artist Lucas Werneck who indeed pull out the stops when it comes to addressing Ororo’s humanity and the god-like powers she possesses that truly make her a hero who never gets consumed by her abilities but it also makes her designed for an even greater role (Just take a look at the last page **NO SPOILERS**); This first issue helps in solidifying Ororo as the hero she should have been a long time ago, and it’s about time! Thanks to the herculean efforts of both Ayodele and Werneck, this series is looking to be another gem straight out of the “From The Ashes” relaunch.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
