THE ORIGINAL SUPERHERO ACTION FIGURE?
Do you know who the first original superhero action figure was? Following the successful launches of Barbie (1959) and G.I. Joe (1964), Ideal Toys revolutionized playtime with Captain Action in 1966 with an amazing array of licensed character costumes ranging from Spider-Man and Sgt. Fury to Batman and Superman!
Just two years later, DC Comics launched a short-lived but pivotal Captain Action comic book series. Written by future Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter – then just 16 years old – and illustrated EC legend Wally Wood, Captain Action #1 forever established the good captain as a comic book character. With next issue, another great, artist Gil Kane, would join the creative team.
Since then, he’s appeared in comics from Moonstone Books, and Dynamite Entertainment, and in a collected edition from IDW Publishing. Along the way, he’s met a number of great other characters, but that’s never included Al Capone…
Until now!
AL CAPONE IS BACK. AND HE’S A VAMPIRE.
Years after his death, Al Capone has returned to Chicago and he’s doing things his way, and it’s probably just what you’d expect: trouble for the crime families, the gangs, and the other vampires who rule the night in the Windy City. With his top lieutenant, Duncan Leeds, Capone is once again the boss of Chicago… but he has a powerful rival, Judith, and he’s looking for an edge in his fight against her.
