Comments: Queenie is getting harassed by the local police and decides to fight back the only way she can. She is taking it to the press. Queenie is a strong independent woman. She has criminal ties and she is high up as far as black women go. In this time racism exists and it influences many things and people.
In Harlem, a lottery is run by Queenie. It makes money for Harlem. A gangster Dutch Schultz has decided he wants to take this away from Queenie. She will fight back. The Queen’s newspaper column gets her a lot of hate.
The atmosphere is set perfectly through the art. The colors are nicely subdued.
It’s the White Mafia vs Queenie. Other forces gang up against Queenie. Yes, a black woman does not stand much of a chance yet Queenie does not stop fighting.
Queenie is far from perfect yet she does her race proud. She stood up for what was right and this time it did make a difference. This lady gangster made her voice heard and changed the world for the better. She is an example to all.
This is a well-written story about a black woman and the struggles she had to face that she should not have. She never backed down and proved she was just as good or better than anyone of any color. This woman deserves respect.
