Blood Hunt # 1– Marvel kicks off the summer with another crossover event that believe it or not, looks exciting, to say the least! The story starts with a vampire cult making its mark by locking out the sun and attacking some of the more major cities; Yes, Blade is front and center but the ending (**NO SPOILERS**) will not only shock you but leave you asking more questions than anything; Yes, DC did something similar with the exact premise but for their part, Marvel seems to hit it out the park due to Jed MacKay’s stellar writing (They must LOVE adding on to his workload) and Pere Perez’s art that sticks mostly to the shadows.
Indeed, some Marvel events are completely hit or miss but this one began and ended on a high scale that will have readers returning for more.

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII # 1– With “Deadpool & Wolverine” ready to hit theaters, Marvel decides to once again put them together in a new adventure that will push them to their limits ….or at least until Logan gets annoyed by Deadpool’s wisecracks!! Joe Kelly, whose definite take on the Merc with a Mouth is still a fan favorite, returns to tell this story that will make anyone remember “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” but the twist?!- This sanitized version is more enjoyable, it also allows Kelly the opportunity to take Wade Wilson to new heights in a way we’ve never seen before. Maybe it will be good or come the next issue, we might go back to the old status quo but either way, this series is off to a great start.

Space Ghost # 1– Either you know him from the iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 1960s or his satirical talk show from the 1990s, This series is a good recommendation for anyone who wants heart-stopping action and excitement in their superhero stories; Right away, the team of David Pepose and Jonathan Lau have taken Space Ghost back to his roots that embraces everything from the 60s while seeing such iconic characters like Jan, Jace and Blip in a new light instead of being comedic fodder and at the same time putting Brak back in the role of the notorious villain that’s very intriguing but the fact that the creative team is embracing the Sci-Fi factor is simply brilliant in a story that never goes for quirkiness but instead, enhances the drama that helps in making a series like this more accessible. Thanks to the fine folks at Dynamite Entertainment, Space Ghost is officially back in a way that fans old and new can enjoy with such zealousness.

Superman: House of Brainiac Special # 1– This special serves as a gap between chapters two and three with three stories that show the state of Metropolis as well as Brainiac’s pillaging of Czarina and Amanda Waller’s meeting with a team of Brainiac variants that completely shocked her (I have to say, Joshua Williamson continues to impress with his writing that makes up for the event that was “Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths” where his writing didn’t shine I’m sad to say); Perhaps the one story that is the most impressive was the Mark Russell/Steve Pugh story revolving around Bibbo and his willingness to help Perry White with his campaign of running for mayor of Metropolis that had plenty of heart that reminds Superman fans why Bibbo is such a fan-favorite; This special moves the arc forward thanks in part to the three stories that never feel like filler material but help in giving readers the full scale of Brainiac’s master plan while displaying the chaotic elements that come with it. A great companion piece to an extraordinary arc.

The Whisper Queen # 1– Chip Zdarksy and Kris Anka return to the world of “The White Trees” with this sequel that brings readers back to the fantasy world that is filled with intrigue and sex in a way that feels like an extremely dirty version of “Dungeons and Dragons” but with some delightful aspects thrown in for good measure; Right away readers will lose themselves in the world of Blacksand thanks to Anka’s stunning visuals and Zdarksy’s ability to add exposition and dramatizing is excellent in making it engaging while at the same time, giving us such engaging characters both old and new that helps in moving the plot forward; “The White Trees” is by far one of the most surprising fantasy comics that was appealing on every level but the sequel continues that trend but keeps the surprises coming at every turn.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
