Comments: Mariko and Rem are breaking up but they do have one more night together first. Their last night together is filled with so many weird characters and they are not even phased by them. Then they get to go to Monster House.
It is easy to see Mariko and Rem do love each other dearly. They do not want to part but society says otherwise. Will Mariko go that extra mile to stay with Rem? Will she do something evil?
Mariko as she spends more time with her boyfriend finds out he may not care about her as much as she thought. She has put her life on hold because of him.
Mr-Eat-Your-Heart-Out is an evilly drawn character and you just know he is up to no good.
Mariko does go on a life-learning journey. She and Rem are romantically involved but is there not more for her in life? Are these two destined to break up? Or will they stay together somehow? The struggle is predominant and Mariko is a fighter, unlike Rem.
Mariko finally realizes her life is hers and only she gets to decide how she will live it.
The art style a lot of the time is simplistic. The backgrounds can be vague. The expressions do not have a lot of detail in them yet they do deliver emotions. Mariko is a woman you can follow along with and sympathize with as she grows in how she looks at her life. Her self-realization is an emotional one that will draw you in and have you feeling her happiness as if it were your own.
