n the Golden Age of Comic Books (1938-1956), the jungle girl character was ubiquitous. The era of the jungle girl waned after the Golden Age However, fan interest in jungle girl stories never died. Into the breach stepped Bill Black, who not only reprinted the old Golden Age jungle girl stories to be enjoyed by a new generation of fans but created his own jungle girl, Tara, to take up the mantle in the modern era. These inspirations from the past provide the basis for my very own jungle adventurer, Alina. A botanist by profession and a danger magnet by fate, the book is a collection of five fun and entertaining stories totaling at least 80 pages of full color art, as well as additional pin-ups and commentary.
The first story, “The Objective,” provides an introduction to Alina’s adventurous spirit and was penciled by the legendary Rudy Nebres, most renowned for his work on Savage Sword of Conan for Marvel Comics in the 1970s. Then, current and former “Femforce” artists, Bobby Ragland and Ed Coutts provide pencils and inks for “Movie Magic!”
Next, Alina has a run-in with a ruthless drug trafficker, in the Rob Jones’ illustrated tale, “Predator and Prey,” before Ed Coutts draws a special Halloween themed escapade titled, “Monsters.”
The final, extra-length story, “Destination: Danger,” again sees Ed Coutts on illustration duties as the consequences of her actions put Alina on the run through a gauntlet of unexpected situations!
The book is almost complete with 2 available covers, the main cover painted by illustrator and good girl artist, Ed Coutts, and an alternate cover by the aforementioned Bill Black. The campaign will serve, in part, as a pre-order allowing me to gauge the quantity of each cover version to print. I expect to have the book printed and shipped before October 2023 so it can be in the backers’ hands before Halloween!
