What If The X-Men Had Stayed In Asgard?

For this week’s installment, I’m gonna take a look at “What If (Vol. 2) # 12” Which sees The X-Men and The New Mutants in Asgard due to the events of New Mutants Special # 1 and X-Men Annual # 9 (The X-Men travel to Asgard to rescue The New Mutants after being abducted by Loki) but things go a different route when Rahne Sinclair decides to stay, now there are various X-Men/New Mutants members that set out to make a life for themselves in Asgard.
What’s really great about this particular issue of “What If” is the fact that The X-Men and The New Mutants (Some of them) found true happiness while on Asgard and seeing Thor-Frog (Who made his appearance in Thor # 366) was just another interesting way to keep the story in continuity all while paying homage to the stellar work that Walt Simonson did during his time on Thor. Loki trying his best to gain favor by Those Who Sit Above In Shadow shows how he can be truly conniving and treacherous, but at the same time, is willing to do something good even if there is a dark motive to his intentions (He went back on his edict on if one person stay, everyone shall remain on Asgard, so Loki decides to send the ones who want to leave back to earth so he can gain favor from Those Who Sit Above In Shadows by gaining the power to rule the Nine Worlds)
This is an amazing alternate story that made the second volume of “What If” a fan favorite and it even brings with it a happy ending (**NO SPOILERS**); With that, I have to say that if this issue isn’t in your collection then it should be, mainly because of the fabulous and creative way that Mutants blended in with Asgardian Culture.
