Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman # 2– While I thoroughly enjoyed reading Diana Prince’s adventures at the end of time, I have to say that this is one of the saddest stories to ever come out of the Future State line; From Diana saying goodbye to an aging Superman in his final battle with Darkseid to her interaction with The Spectre, the emotional factors really hit you hard but Immortal Wonder Woman gives us another story of life during the end of time but it never delivers when it comes to the ending, and that’s a shame because this could have been a splendid WW story if the plot didn’t drown in sorrow. The Nubia backup feature was great but I felt like it never delivered that big wow factor and saw print just so DC can bring in a few extra dollars. Immortal Wonder Woman could have been better if it only let up on the sad aspects just a little.
Immortal Hulk: Flatline # 1– Declan Shalvey comes on board to deliver what is, in my opinion, one of the best Hulk stories to date ( I know I must say that a lot but what I read in this special really impressed me); The special opens up with Bruce Banner waking up in a different place every morning due to his Hulk transformations but things get really complicated when Bruce comes face-to-face with someone from his past and soon has him confronting his anger, not to mention dealing with The Hulk. Shalvey can certainly bring his A-Game when it comes to his art, mainly because he shows us the incredible details (No pun included) he put into his pages and how he manages to make everything so great, and even with his writing, he never loses any of the wonders that come to doing a Hulk story which is very rare for any writer/artist. If you’re an Immortal Hulk fan and just want to read a story without none of the weirdness and horror elements from the main series, then Flatline is just
the comic got you.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man # 23– Yes I know, The “King in Black” storyline and numerous tie-ins see some of our favorite heroes battling anyone infected with a symbiote, which yeah, can be tiresome after a few months or so, but this latest issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man really take this concept and shows us how to make it fresh and innovative. Seeing Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) being infected with a symbiote at first was a yawnfest but it really made this story so grounded due to the friendship the latter shares with Miles; Plus I felt that the stellar storytelling really made this a story worth reading and hopefully, most of the titles from Marvel can get back to their own stories instead of relying on the “King in Black” event.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin # 2– It’s interesting to see that Michelangelo is the last Turtle but his interactions with April O’Neil and her daughter were priceless and his battling The Foot Clan all while seeing Mikey reconnect with his past was just bone-chilling but made for a great backstory and this series is really becoming a hit for and doing a great job of giving the TMNT a new lease on life and again, you won’t be sorry after reading this series, it may be dark and moody but there’s no denying the fact that this is a terrific series.
