Kal-El Gets a New Suit in First Superman & Lois Image

Since making his debut back in the pages of Action Comics #1, Superman has changed his look more than a few times. From his strongman-inspired duds of the Golden Age, to the iconic red-and-blue suit he wore in his first live action screen appearance, to the black-and-silver costume he boasted after returning from the dead, Kal-El is nothing if not fashion forward. So, it’s not surprising that when he returns to the small screen, Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel will be donning a new super-suit.

The CW released the first official image of Hoechlin from their upcoming DCTV series Superman & Lois today. Along with a powerful pose and the iconic globe of the Daily Planet visible in the background, The Man of Steel has made some stylish upgrades to the suit, adding a more streamlined belt, some new textures and an updated, more eye-grabbing version of Superman’s famous glyph.

Hoechlin’s Superman was first introduced on The CW’s Supergirl and has since returned for several guest appearances, most recently as a part of the network’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, which also introduced Elizabeth Tulloch as Superman’s longtime paramour, Lois Lane. Superman & Lois, which premieres on The CW next year, will bring the two characters center stage, offering fans their first live action Superman series since Smallville went off the air in 2011. The show will take a more domestic approach to the Man of Steel, focusing on Clark and Lois as they move back to Smallville with their two young sons, bringing them back into contact with classic Superman characters like Lana Lang and her family and Lois’s father, General Sam Lane. Superman & Lois will be set in the same shared universe as The CW’s other DC shows, like The Flash, Batwoman and Supergirl.
