With Halloween just a few days away, I’ll be taking a look at Marvel Adventures Hulk # 13 and the spooky vibes from this issue is just perfect for the Halloween season; The issue opens up with Bruce Banner, Rick Jones, and their pet monkey simply named “Monkey” wandering through the empty streets of New York which they discover is home to a pyramid but soon they discover that every hero, cop and citizen are transformed into mummies.
I really enjoyed the stylish tone of this issue as it has quite the 1950s horror movie feel to it while also making the concept of mummies look very terrorizing. Plus who wouldn’t go crazy over seeing a mummified Captain America or even more frightening, a mummified Silver Surfer! Soon enough, all the horror is being caused by The Living Pharaoh, thanks to his pyramid, has channeled just enough cosmic energy to transform him into The Living Monolith and you’ll get a kick out of the way The Hulk defeats him (** NO SPOILERS**) but I really got a kick out of this issue, and the fact that it was penned by Peter David made it special as he’s a master storyteller.
With the Marvel Adventures line strictly aimed at kids and all audience in general, I found this issue of Marvel Adventures Hulk to be quite the issue that anyone can enjoy, all while reminding some of the older audience how fun The Silver Age of Comics were when a done in one type of story can show us how great the hero and his supporting cast and villains are. Plus this makes for a great Halloween story.
