Yes, I’m one of those people. One of those people that’s both a fan of Star Wars and Star Trek. I will always be a bigger Star Wars fan, but I grew up watching Star Trek as well, as you can tell from my Destiny Aurora series, it’s an amalgam of the two. So, as you might have guessed, I collect both comic series.
Though I’m a fan of STNG, DS9, and Voyager, The Original Series will always be the closest to my heart. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, and Scotty will always be the unbeatable team. For the most part IDW has been doing a good job with “Year Five,” although I haven’t been a big fan of the spider-alien character and Sulu falling in love with a fish-chick.
This issue starts a new storyline and it looks promising. The crew has come back from their five-year exploratory mission and Kirk is disappointed to learn that he won’t be going out into the cosmos again any time soon. Starfleet vessels are suddenly threatened by a Klingon fleet that promises to destroy them all unless Kirk is tried for his crimes against the Klingon Empire. Of course, it Klingon that mean – executed.
Shaw, the Starfleet representative tries to negotiate with the Klingons, but soon their captain, Dev Vo’Qul beams over and announces that there will be knife dual between himself and Kirk. Meanwhile McCoy and Spock do some investigating to find out experiments are being done on some of McCoy’s patients. They are discovered and placed under arrest.
Kirk is taken back to the Klingon homeworld is to sentenced to go through the gauntlet of bat’leth wielding Klingon warriors. Dun dun dun. It doesn’t look good for Kirk, but we know he will pull through in some ingenious way.
