The Daily Comic Book Coffee, number 93: “One Day At A Time” featuring Iron Man, from Marvel Comics Presents #8, penciled by Javier Saltares, inked by Chris Ivy, written by Sholly Fisch, lettered by Michael Heisler, and colored by Andy Yanchus, published by Marvel Comics in December 1988.
Tony Stark is a recovering alcoholic, and as such he’s been shown attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. A 2008 study stated “Recent findings confirm that coffee and cigarette use among AA members is greater than among the general U.S. population.” And here we see the attendees of this meeting drinking coffee as Tony relates in general terms a recent challenging experience, one where he had made mistakes, and how the tools of recovery helped him to successfully deal with the problem. Via flashbacks we the readers see this involved Tony as Iron Man having to face the malevolent electrical monster Zzzax.
Javier Saltares & Chris Ivy do a good job on this eight pages tale. Soon after Saltares gained recognition as the first penciler on the successful revival of Ghost Rider in early 1990. Ivy has effectively inked numerous pencilers over the years at several different publishers.
“One Day At A Time” is an early story by Sholly Fisch, who went on to write numerous issues of Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo Team-Up and Teen Titans Go for DC Comics.
