Picture asteroids on crack and you have a small idea of what this top-down single screen shooter has in store. Even the name “Shooting Blaster Big Bang Boom” gives you a small hint of the frantic action that awaits you when you start up this game.
There are plenty of weapons, enemy ships, asteroids (yes!) and lots and lots of deaths. It is the perfect arcade style game that you just want to try playing one more time to see if you can get a better score than the last time. The ship you start out with is pretty basic; you can take three points of damage to your hull before you explode and you can use one weapon at a time which means that the early going is not going to be easy. You can unlock more advanced ships which will give you better hulls, shields, the usage of multiple weapons and even a nuke to wipe the enemies off of the screen when it all just gets too much to handle.
Ships unlock every 20 levels with better stats to help you survive and if you want to get to the end of the game at level 200 you will need every bit of help you can get. This game is not a walk in the park, it would have made a good quarter suck back in the days of the arcade.
As it is I have gotten past level 20 exactly once but what a feeling when I did it. I usually tap out in the mid-teens but that doesn’t mean I would be back to try again and again. For a game that costs less than two bucks, what more could you ask for?
