L.A. COMIC CON 2019 PANEL LINE-UP
The panel programming includes everything
from European Space Agency astronauts to Batman,
from video game actors to horror film music,
and from gay geek culture to staging successful movie musicals.
(Los Angeles, CA – 9/30/2019) White Bear PR is pleased to announce eight panels for L.A.’s biggest and greatest comic, gaming, sci-fi, horror and pop culture event – L.A. Comic Con. Bringing together some of the best and brightest talent working behind the scenes of Hollywood, the panel programming will feature talks on creating music for horror films and video games, plus a musical history of Batman, the first appearance of an astronaut at L.A. Comic Con with Space Station Earth, a look into creating live productions of beloved Disney musicals, a discussion on being an Entertainment professional while being LGBTQ+, and exploring the casting and directing process of actors in video games. Everything takes place on Saturday, Oct 12 and Sunday, Oct 13 inside the LA Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles. White Bear PR has been producing content for Comic-Con International, WonderCon, New York Comic Con, and now L.A. Comic Con.

Saturday, Oct 12th, 2019:
10:30 AM – BEHIND THE SCREAMS: MUSIC FOR HORROR & THRILLERS – Room 403A
Join critically acclaimed and award-winning composers John Murphy (28 Days Later), Emily Rice (The I-Land), Taylor Newton Stewart (The Haunting of Hill House), and Timothy Williams (Brightburn) as they discuss their process for scoring the spine-chilling music from some of the most popular horrors and thrillers of all time. Moderated by Kaya Savas of FilmMusicMedia.
11:30 AM – SPACE STATION EARTH – Room 403A
Award winning British & French composer Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Still Alice), along with European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, will discuss their latest project, the stunning new show called “Space Station Earth.” The music-led, multi-media experience features Eshkeri’s music alongside images shot by astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Moderated by Chandler Poling of White Bear PR.
12:30 PM – PRESS START: SCORING FOR VIDEO GAMES – Room 403A
What started as simple electronic noises in video games has now grown into lush orchestral and experimental musical productions. This panel will feature composers Austin Wintory (Journey, The Banner Saga), Nainita Desai (Telling Lies), Sarah Schachner (Anthem, Assassin’s Creed Origins) and Jon Everist (BattleTech). Listen as the composers discuss their creative process, how they broke into the industry, and what goes into creating the music for some of your favorite video games.
1:30 PM – A MUSICAL HISTORY OF BATMAN – Room 403A
The Dynamic Music Partners – Lolita Ritmanis (Batman: The Killing Joke), Kristopher Carter (Batman Beyond), and Michael McCuistion (Batman: Harley Quinn) who all three got their start as composers on Batman: The Animated Series, will present a Musical History of Batman starting from the Adam West TV Batman to the current sounds associated with the Dark Knight. So many different styles have followed the masked man. What were the influences of the time and how has the character matured musically over the decades? These questions and more will be addressed followed by an audience Q&A.
2:30 PM – BEHIND THE SCENES OF CELEBRATING MOVIE MUSICALS LIVE – Room 403A
Director/Producer Richard Kraft pulls back the curtain on the process of mounting live-to-film experiences at The Hollywood Bowl like Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, La La Land and beyond. He is joined by a panel of show creators including famed illustrator Shag, 2-time Oscar-winning composer Justin Hurwitz (La La Land), Executive Event Producer John Kinsner (Rocketman: Live in Concert), Associate Event Producer Melissa Axel, and Media Director for Mousetrappe Ryan Kravetz.
3:30 PM – STORYTELLING IN VIDEO GAMES – Room 403A
An inside look at Swedish developer MachineGames’ critically acclaimed Wolfenstein video game series – set in an alternate universe where the Nazis won the war. Meet the casts of “The New Order,” “The New Colossus,” and the recent “Youngblood,” and find out what makes the stories and acting in these award-winning narrative games so compelling. Featuring cast members Brian Bloom, Alicja Bachleda, Debra Wilson, Nina Franoszek, Shelby Young, and Valerie Rose Lohman. The panel will be moderated by director Tom Keegan, who will also give insights into the casting process of video games.

GAY GEEKS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM – Room 304ABC
Entertainment industry professionals discuss how to turn your favorite geeky fandoms into flourishing careers, the challenges and rewards of growing up gay, and how being a member of the LGBT community influenced their work. Join voice-over actor JP Karliak (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Batman: The Killing Joke), Decca Music Group’s Fran Goncalves, Filmmaker/Blogger Terence Johnson, and CEO of Qweerty Ray Lancionefor a look into their upbringing and what geeky hobbies they hold on to. Moderated by Chandler Poling of White Bear PR.
